Knitting. Yarn. Fiber artistry. More knitting. Nursing school. Hospice work. Death and the dying process. Phoenix Raven's. Knitting. Yarn. Oh, and Life As An Air Force Wife.

The Air Force base that I live on started a Veteran's Day Vigilance walk/run yesterday afternoon.

Basically, we've had someone running or walking and carrying the flag ever since 1600 yesterday.  Yesterday when it started the weather looked like it was going to be on our side; it was pleasant and unseasonably warm at 65+ degrees.  However, that didn't last.  At 1800 it started to rain, then we got thunder and lightning followed by a 30 - 40 degree drop in temperature - which turned the rain to snow.  The wind picked up yesterday and as yet hasn't let off any, and the temperature hasn't risen above 45 degrees today.

My husband and his colleagues ran at 5am this morning for an hour, and then Dave and I went out there together this afternoon and walked a mile.  I wore my hospice hat so I could represnt for them and I carried the flag for the entire mile (which we completed in less than 15 mins, despite the wind - not bad for a semi-cripple, huh? ).

I think that this has been a wonderful way to remember those who have served and sacrificed for their country, and I hope that this is the start of a Scott AFB tradition.  I know that if this happens again next year I'll be participating again.

Sounds like a great way to commemorate Veteran's Day.  The rain, snow and walk/run are good reminders of what our vets have endured for so long now!
