I'm embarking on a exciting expedition this morning. I've been anticipating this all weekend.  I couldn't go on Saturday or Sunday because the kids were home and my husband wouldn't have been pleased about my taking him along with me.

I even woke up in the night thinking about how today was the day.

I've found a yarn store in a little town about 8 miles away from here.  This is the kind of yarn store that doesn't sell Red Heart Super Saver scratchy acrylic - the kind of yarn that, if you expose it to heat, melts in your hands.  No no, this store carries yarns that are 100% wool and wool blends, silk yarn and alpaca and hemp and cotton and cashmere...yarns that are simply divine to work with and blissful to wear in their finished product states.

I don't know if I'm going to buy anything today. I have enough for a ball of sock yarn and I might bring one back with me, but I think that today I'm just going to go see what they have and then come home and find a pattern that I think will work well with one of the yarns I see today.

I'm so excited!  I'm so tired of craft chain-store yarns.  I mean, I can get some decent merino wool there, but they don't carry sock yarn or even silk yarn.  I've been ordering from eBay, but it would be really nice to have some instant gratification instead of having to wait days and sometimes even weeks for my yarn to arrive.  If this store is everything that I hope it is....well, then it's going to be a dream come true.

Speaking of everything I hope it is....I REALLY hope I'm not disappointed.  I don't want to come home in tears because they don't have anything better than the craft chain-stores.

I'll keep you posted.

Sounds like fun. I hope you find some treasures. You are a better woman than I, if you can resist buying anything.

I'm afraid I cannot share your entusiasm for working with yarn, but I know for a fact that I can tell the difference between the good and the crappy yarns. My mom is always sending me knitted garments.

This "thread" solidifies in my eyes, that you are truly in fact, none other than a honest to God, Yarn Junkie!

Good luck on your hunt, and I would love to see some pics of the finished products. If your using silk, let me know, you may have a customer

Well, the store was a bust.  They stopped carrying knitting supplies almost a year ago.  So, I didn't buy anything there.  But, I did get a container for my beads and some more cotton to knit Tex's boys' skully wristbands.  So, I am not a better woman than you (and I never was to begin with)!

See, that's why I changed the name of my blog!

What are you looking for?  I can get my hands on silk blended yarn online.

It looks like we have different definitions of 'exciting expedition', haha, but to each her own, my friend, to each her own

Yeah, I guess we do!  Any store that carries knitting supplies and is out of my home town is considered an 'expedition' to me!

(ps, have you been to Fast Eddies over in Alton, IL yet? a fun spot for you and the hub, no kids allowed. arrive HONGRY. and thirsty!)

We haven't, but we've decided that we need to have a day out for ourselves once a month.  we've gotten so stagnant; all we ever do is sit home or go shopping without the kids.  We really need time on our own and have been looking for a place to go...so we'll certainly check it out!

Where do you go for yarn online? Everything around here is acrylic. Except for one place I found, and it's 'bout 15 bucks for what's admittedly an absolutely beautifully died 4 oz. skein of wool. Plus I'm moving again next month anyways. Bleah.
