This is what I started last night:
I'm making it for my mom - I changed my mind about the last lacy scarf that I started and have decided to frog it (that's rip it out and use the yarn for something else in knit-speak) - and I'm using a pale lavender silky textured sport-weight yarn. So far I'm very happy with it, and am pleased to report that it's not as hard as it looks. It's not the kind of thing that you can knit whith your eyes closed or whilst watching TV because it demands a certain amount of concentration and focus, but it's not the kind of thing that's going to keep me up at night, wondering what the fuck I'm doing wrong because no matter how hard I try I can't seem to get it right.
I wanted to make something for mum for Christmas that would really impress her, take her breath away, almost.....something to show her just how much I love her and how important she is to me. I think that this is it.
I'm also casting on the stitches for these today:
Again, they're not as hard as they look. If you know how to cable, you'll have no problems making these little beauties. The person who came up with the pattern calls them 'smocked' because the cabling on the back looks like smocking on little girl's dresses. I personally think that the cabling looks more like a celtic knot - and that's why I like them so much, I think.
The illusion scarf for Shea is coming along nicely. I've done one purple skull and am working on a second black one. Once I'm done with this black one, I'm going to knit in plain stripes until I've accomplished about 2/3 of the total length, then I'm going to do the pattern backwards (so all the skulls face the same way) and finish the other end. It shouldn't take me too long; I should have it finished in plenty of time for her birthday next month.
That's all for this edition of the Yarn Junkie's daily knitting news, folks. Tune in this time tomorrow for photos of the actual projects being worked. (and maybe of the junkie herself).
