Project big bad baby blanket has been completed and is currently in my new washer being gently rocked back and forth on a delicate cycle.  Unless the washer eats it or something catastrophic happens, it will be getting mailed out tomorrow.

It's been in my hands a long time, has this blanket.  It's been a lot of places with me....to St Louis on the Metro, to my doctor's office, to the pool and the park and in the truck.  It's got too many stitches in it for me to count, but I'm sure it's in the hundreds of thousands.

I'm scared to send it now.  I'm afraid that it won't be good enough or that Debbie and Brad won't like it.  I'm second guessing myself, I know - everyone who's seen it thus far has said that it's pretty darn groovy - but much as a dress designer is nervous about revealing their new collection of clothing, so I am nervous about sending this blanket off.  I won't be satisfied until I hear back from it's recipents that they like it - and then I'll probably question them and make sure they really, really like it.  I dunno why it's so important to me, it just is.

Farewell, big bad baby blanket.  I made you for Ashley Grace; now that she's here you can go and complete your purpose.

Go, and give that little girl warmth and security - go, and wrap her up in love.

I guess we are going to have to wait for Jilluser to post a picture?

Congratulations!  Auntie Dharma!

I'm sure it will be loved for years to come. The best kind of gifts are the ones packed with extra love, just as this one was.

Yeah, we are.  I don't like to post pictures of finished products when they're for someone else, I think it spoils the surprise.

Oh yeah.  My mum made me a set of cross stitch pictures for my birthday one year, and I cherish them.

looks at Lupa, prominently draped over her dresser mirror, and smiles...~

I'm sure they'll love it, Karen

Ah yeah, Lupa....she was a lot of fun to make, and I'm glad that you liked her.  Yeah, you've made me feel better with that, Sabrina.  Thanks!

Wise Lady! I had not thought of that.

I am sure it is awesome Dharma.

It is your "art" and spending so much time on something has to make ya love it.

Ashley will look good swaddled in it....(heh, she'd look good in anything!)

It IS art, and I'm glad that you think of it that way!.  I didn't follow a pattern for it; I had a pattern as a guideline, but I did the color combinations and the embellishments myself - I guess you could say I freestyled it.  I even took out some of the embellishments and changed things around a couple of times because I didn't like the way it looked.  I know I'm probably worrying about nothing, but that's just how I am when it comes to this kind of thing!

I had not thought of that.

Ah hah!  See, I'm ahead of the game!

Yep, I had decided that I'd finish it this weekend.  I had planned to have it done a week or so ago, but then my dad passed away and I was focusing on other things.  However.....this little girl's birth has helped me along the with the grieving process; I can see that the circle of life has been completed and also begun again.  One left, another came, and so the cycle begins again.....

When I was a child I had a blanket bought for me. It was (and is) wonderful. Woven of the softest wool and dyed in big checks formed of red lines - but inside the checks everything was wonderful tones of different colors that blended into each other.

I took it with me to college and wanted to bring it with me when I left the UK. No room. So it languishes in storage, back in the UK. I'm sure she'll take hers with her when she goes to college too.

Aww!  Want me to try and make you a new one sometime?

You miss your blankie

I had a blankie too.  It had a satin edge to it and I used to suck my thumb and fall asleep with my blankie in my hand.

You worry too much dharma

I do.  I know I do.  It's just hard NOT to worry.  I worry if I don't have anything to worry about, you know?

I think we all had something along those lines. I had a stuffed monkey with a banana I called George if I recall correctly.
