10 years ago today, I was busy.
I was laboring with my son, Jake. Actually, it was around this time that the morphine wore off and they wouldn't give me any more because I was 7cm. I stayed there for 5 hours, and they refused to give me any more pain relief the entire time.
At 6:16pm MST, Jacob Solomon was born. He was 8lbs 7oz and he was 20" long, and he was the calmest baby with the longest toes I'd ever seen.
He's 10 today. He's got his ID card now, so he thinks he's all grown up. We took him out for Krispy Kremes at 6am, he ate a burger at Johnny Rockets for lunch, and despite AAFES screwing up (like they usually do) he's now the proud owner of a new yellow and black mountain bike. We're going fishing AND to the pool this afternoon, and he's having cake and ice cream tonight. Yes, it's a full day, but this is the first birthday that his dad's been here for since 2003 (and that time he spent half the day at work, having been called in for some bullshit or other. His work ethic has changed significantly since then - he now tells people that unless it's an emergency he's not to be disturned on anniversaries and birthdays) so he's trying to make up for the last few years a little bit.
Happy Birthday, my solstice boy. I hope that you have a wonderful day.
