He's been gone 10 years on Monday.

I can't believe it's been that long.

It seems like just yesterday that I heard the news, that I sat and wept, openly wept for him, for his child, for myself...

for the loss of one so young, so talented, so beautiful..

for one so despondent and tortured that he simply couldn't see any way out of the hell he had created around himself.

I remember thinking that if he, he who had all that, saw no other way to escape the pain

then what hope was there for the rest of us?

I still can't believe he's gone. I still can't believe he did it.

I want to believe that he's hiding somewhere;

That he made his escape from celebrity and is living in Peru

on a farm.

Then I see that he did make his escape. He did.

He made an escape.

And I'm still left behind to wonder...and to weep for his loss, for my loss.

For our loss.

Kurt's suicide, I think, should be used as a lesson. I think most of us know someone who as committed suicide, at least indirectly (a classmate, friend of a friend, etc). If Kurt had lived, he may have really made a difference in the world. Maybe he could have driven people to act for a cause, like Eddie Vedder. Maybe he could have made enough difference in a person's life that THEY wouldn't want to commit suicide. Instead, he set a bad example...but no one's perfect.

Let's put a candle in the window tomorrow for Kurt.

I wrote a blog asking people to light candles for Kurt tomorrow. I'd like to see just how many people will do it...

..and I'm still saddened by his passing. I too wonder what he could have been, become, what he could have achieved. I wonder where he would be today and what he would be doing..

I found it ironic when I read somewhere that Dave Grohl from the Foo Fighters and former Nirvana drummer said that he admired Australian band Silverchair - because when they started in their garages back in 199something.... they were influenced by Nirvana right down to the greasy blonde hair.
But they moved on - from garage grunge to rock - they kinda grew up with their music (do you know what I mean)

Ie - Tomorrow, Freak, Ana's Song Anthem and the new stuff - it's changed so much and one of their influences is a fan - that's gotta be weird....
