We've had Gracie living with us for 10 days now.  It seems like a lot longer; it feels like she's been here forever.

She's done remarkably well in the week and a half.  She's learned that outside is the appropriate place to go potty, and if she can't make it outside then she should use the housebreaking mats we have.  Her aim could be a little better and I wish that she'd stay still when she poops, but...she's got the idea, and I'm cool with that.

She's learned to sit on command.  I'm very surprised that she's learned that this early, and I've wondered if it wasn't a fluke...but she keeps doing it consistently, so I guess I'm wrong and she really does have the hang of it.

She's grown accustomed to her crate.  I crate her whenever I can't be in the same room as her; when I take a shower or I have to leave for the store or an appointment.  She didn't care for it much as first, but she's figured that I will always come back to let her out so she's happier to be in it now.

She's learned that we will NOT tolerate a dog that bites or snaps at people, period.  She got wound up playing with Henry and she snapped at Shea's face over the weekend.  That earned her a scolding and a timeout from us - we're her pack, see.  In the wild, dogs will shun or exclude a member who breaks the rules of the pack, so that's what we did for her.  It was only for a few minutes, and she's apparently learned her lesson because she hasn't done it again.

She's also sleeping through the night.  She sleeps at the end of our bed, and I think that may have somehting to do with it...but she goes to bed around 9 at night and doesn't stir until Dave gets up at 5 to go to the gym.  Before he leaves he takes her outside, and then he puts her back in bed with me.  She goes back to sleep for another hour, then I get up and take her out again and we start our day.

She plays with Dave in the evenings.  He gets down on the floor with her, and they play tug-of-war with her rope toy.  He pretends to pounce on her and she barks her little puppy bark at him as she pounces right back at him.

She's an awesome dog so far.  Truly awesome.

That is an adorable picture and I'm not much of a dog person.

Are her eyes really that blue?

This is a little off topic so delete if ya want.  I read a devotional this morning about pets.  I always believed there would be no pets in heaven.  I mean, in my mind, it didn't make a lot of sense.  If some humans aren't going, well then, why would an animal?

Yet, when you think about it God always makes a place for animals.  When he placed Adam in the garden with all the animals He said it was "very good."  And then when Noah and his family built the ark.  It was so big to save animals as well!

Obviously, I don't think it is a stretch to believe people will be reunited with their pets in heaven.  Animals play a part in God's design....at least I believe this now, since this morning.

Sorry to get off topic there.....

Cute pup.

She is a cutie. I love Boxer pups.

I hope Dave gets up regularly at 5. My pup got used to my wife doing that and now when she wants to sleep in he wakes her up. He leaves me alone though until 6:06 every morning. My alarm clock goes off at 6:10 and he knows he has to get back in the room before then if he wants me to play with him as I wake.

Henry taught her.

Seriously, I think having a trained dog in the house to show the pups what is and is not the way to do things means they learn quicker.  Especially the potty part.  Dogs can sense people's moods, but they understand growls and yips from another dog a lot easier.

Hey, boxers are smart, naturally inquisitive, easy to please dogs. And what a cutie she is too. I'm glad she is fitting right in and that Henry is getting used to her.

Were you ever tempted to call her June?
