Today I got my Private Investigator ID and my shield. Now I'm almost official. I'm actually within sight of finishing what I started, almost a year after I started it. I also got the results of my last exam...96%, an 'A' grade.

I also probably have a job waiting for me in the UK...my big brother heads a corporate private investigations company. They have contracts with Jack Daniels, Jim Beam, Budweiser, Waterford Crystal, Rolex and Ralston Purina (to name but a few) investigating fraudulent products. He travels all over the world doing this, and has become quite the jet setter. I talked to him a few weeks ago when he was in St Louis on business and happened to mention that I'd be a certified PI by the time we got the England...and that I was thinking about hitting him up for a job. He said he'd probably have some work he could throw my way, and that they didn't have any female investigators so I might be quite useful to them!!!!!!!

Man, that makes me happy!! I'm actually going to accomplish one of the goals I set myself since the accident...it's really a good feeling. I'm going to go look at my shield and ID again now...practice flashing them in front of the mirror, just to see how it looks...

Congratulations! That sounds like so much fun! It's nice when you can enjoy what you do.

It is...I have wanted to do this for ages, ever since my husband certified as a police detective. I think I learned as much as he did during his school, and I had the opportunity to see him at work...and I remember thinking that what he did was really interesting and that I'd like to do it as well. I started off working security enforcement as a basis for investigator (made rank pretty quickly) and got to know the local PD pretty well. With my husband's advice and encouragement I found a school, enrolled...and here I am. We now have this crazy plan to start our own agency when he retires from the Air Force...if we do manage it, it will literally be a dream come true for me.

Fantastic! I am very excited for you.

Sounds like fun, although I've heard the real thing is a lot more boring than the movies.

Well, yes Sherye, some of it is pretty boring.. There's a lot of paperwork, a lot of sitting around waiting, a lot of hand searching records at courthouses....it's not all glamour and action. But, it's what I want to do. I'm just as happy sitting on a surveillance for hours as I am trying to find one single solitary record in a mountain of files. It's all fun to me.

I used to.

I used to carry a Sig Sauer P228, both on duty and as my personal piece. I loved that gun...before that I had a Glock model 23, .40 cal....I didn't like that too much, the polymer frame made it too light of a gun and it had a wicked kick on it. The Sig was heavier and therefore didn't snap back quite as much.

But I digress....unfortunately the UK has some strict anti-gun laws, and I won't be able to carry a firearm over there, so I guess to answer your question, no, I won't. When we come back, however, yes I will...depending on the circumstance.
