Oh, why you look so sad?
The tears are in you eyes,
Come on and come to me now...

Don't be ashamed to cry
Let me see you through
Because I've seen the dark side too

When the night falls on you
And you don't know what to do
Nothing you confess
Could make me love you less

I'll stand by you
I'll stand by you
Won't let nobody hurt you
I'll stand by you

So, if you're mad get mad
Don't hold it all inside
Come on and talk to me now

Hey, what you got to hide,
I get angry too
Well I'm a lot like you

When you're standing at the crossroads,
Don't know which path to choose
Let me come along
'Cause even if you're gone

I'll stand by you
I'll stand by you
Won't let nobody hurt you,
I'll stand by you
Even to your darkest hour
And I'll never desert you

I'll stand by you.

I didn't write those lyrics, Chrissie Hynde did.  But, they're wonderful, and they accurately represent my feelings about a friend I have.

Every once in a while, you meet a person and you know within seconds of talking to them that you're going to be their friend for life.  It doesn't happen very often, in fact it's only happened to me four times in my entire 37 years.  I don't know what causes it, and to be honest I don't care.  All I know is that when it happens, it's something to be cherished and enjoyed.

Hey, you (you know who you are) - I'm here for you.  Don't forget it.

That's all I have to say 'bout that.

Awesome lyrics. Chrissy Hyndes is one of my songwriter heros. I've always loved the line 'Nothing you confess could make me love you less...' Just beautiful.

Yeah, love that song I've always thought about it romantically though, but it's true that it can be applicable for friendship.

And your friend is very lucky to have you dharma

A most excellent tune!

One small correction:

Let me come along
'Cause even if you're gone

should read

Let me come along
'Cause even if you're wrong

Or was that deliberate? (smiles)

There you go pegging the "sweet meter" again.

Points for the Gumpism at the end as well.

Carin' Karen showing why she is such a great person. And yes, we know who we are... we are those blessed to know you and have you in our lives, no matter how small a way.

Beautiful sentiments. I've had only a few friends like that in my life as well. One of them in particular, I seem to be relying on very heavily right now. I'm blessed to have her. She's a gift from heaven.

"If ever you need me i'll be there, if ever you want me I'll be there"', songs have a way of cutting straight to the heart of some things.
