I think that we are all hardened somewhat to the atrocities that man visits upon his fellow man.  We all see and hear about deaths and murders on the news every day and we really don't think anything of them - we're so used to hearing about them that we don't let ourselves feel them anymore.  We harden our hearts - we HAVE to harden our hearts or else we'd never be able to function.

Every once in a while, though, we hear about something so  atrocious that our armor is breached and our hearts are wounded.  Something like that happened to me this morning.

This is Zoey Sunderman:

Isn't she adorable?

Zoey was 7 months old when she was raped - yes, I said RAPED - and killed by her 32 year old uncle, Henry Anthony Sunderman.  I suppose I should put 'allegedly' in that statement because in America people are innocent until proven guilty by a jury of their peers and a burden of proof - but I don't want to.  I'm too ....too......outraged and hurt and sad and sickened to say that she was allegedly RAPED and KILLED by him. She's dead.  She was sexually assaulted and raped.  He's been charged with it.  That's all I need to know for now.Link

Just when I think that humanity can't get any lower - it does.  I cannot for the life of me imagine HOW someone would find an INFANT sexually arousing.  I can't understand how anyone would find a child arousing - I can sort of understand why some men feel the need to rape adult women (it's all about power and degradation) but I cannot comprehend how or why anyone would be sexually aroused by a baby.  She couldn't do anything to defend herself, she couldn't even tell him in words that he was hurting her and that she wanted him to stop.  She didn't even have the strength or the dexterity to try and get away from him.  He held her, and he used her poor little body for his own perverted pleasure.

I don't believe in Satan.  I don't believe that the devil walks among us here on earth, tempting christians by putting football games on the TV right around the time Sunday services start at church (that's just a generalization; some christians believe that the devil is ever vigilant and does things like that).  But I do believe in evil.  I do believe that people like Henry Sunderman, men and women who molest and rape little children, I do believe that they are evil.

I HAVE to believe that....because the alternative doesn't bear thinking about.

The depths of depravity of some people are incomprehensible to normal man (generic label).  It does not take a devil, but it takes a sickness that I will never understand, nor would I ever want to.

We had an incident in our area about a year or two ago, similar to this...it was a six month old child named Briana who was also raped and abused...and she died as well. Mother was on drugs, father was on drugs. They, along with a few other relatives, were charged with her death. It angered me, it pained me, it revolted me, to say the least.

It is beyond me to comprehend how someone can do something so psychotic as this.

The only good thing to come out of this was that a law was signed in her name to get tougher on sexual abusers.

Karen, images like this are stuck in my head. Images from a decade of ambulance calls and disasters play out in my head over and over. I'm glad it sickens you to hear about evil such as this. I'm glad you can't read about it and shrug it off like yesterday's news.

We as humans aren't evil beings, but (as you say) there are evil people among us. I do believe that Satan exists, but Satan doesn't force anyone be evil anymore than God forces anyone to be good. An oxygen thief is a waste of human flesh on their own chioces, not because "the devil made them do it."

Whether we are good or whether we are evil is not about who we are but about the choices we make. This "person" chose to be a vile, inhuman monster, and shouldn't expect any better treatment or respect than any other vile, inhuman monster.

Anyone that sick needs to be put to sleep. There is no excuse, explaination or solution for someone that depraved. They simply need to be eliminated.

That is absolutely depressing. I hope that man is imprisoned for the rest of his life. If he isn't, then I'll hate the judicial system more than I already do with its insistence that rapists and child molestors should be freed so that they can hurt others again.

Revolting, vile person that did this. No conscience whatsoever.

Another sicko was given his 15 minutes of shame, on tv tonight. He had raped a 12 year old girl, given 18 years, and the judge let him out after only 9 years. Said the guy was ready to be out. Right........
This pervert kidnapped, tortured, and raped two young girls. Now he's in custody again, for how long this time??

Can't we just "get rid of them?" quietly? but like forever?

Sick, Sick Sick.
Where I live in Australia, we had a very similar incident to this some time back now, sadly the person was brought to trial, but due to "Technicalities" he was aquited, this grub still lives here in our community, and as if this is not bad enough, he shops where the mother of this child is employed as a checkout attendent, and as a rule makes sure every time he makes a visit to the said shopping centre he uses her checkout. The really sad thing is that when the Govt treid to use a loop hole to retry this man, the bleeding hearts civil libitarians lept to his aid. Eventuall the case was quashed as a result of this pressure. Now the double jepody rule is being revied in several Australian States as a result of this and other cases.

It's revolting that people like him exist. It's too bad that when a crime like that is committed that person can't lose the very thing he uses to do the crime.

Sometimes there's a certain satisfaction is 'street justice' when a henious crime like that is committed in some countries, and the person walks, the street takes care of them. It might seem harsh but that's just what an animal like that deserves.
