..buh-bye now, lump.

I had the much-awaited appointment with my surgeon today.

It was supposed to be last week, but the storm put paid to that idea.

Long story short, he didn't like the idea of leaving lump in there to grow and perhaps invite some friends and relatives over for a party. It has been growing, it wasn't just my imagination. It's only a tiny bit bigger than when I discovered it, but it's bigger nonetheless.

So, next week lump will be removed and biopsied to see exactly what it consists of.

I'll have the procedure done under a local anesthesia with some IV sedation and will be left with a 3+" scar and a nice dimple to remind me of lump's brief but memorable stay. No stay in the hospital is warranted; I'll have it done in the morning and will be home before the kids get home from school in the afternoon. I'll have to take it easy for a couple of days afterwards (yaay, I get to lay on the couch watching TV and eating bon-bons!) but there shouldn't be any major complications.

I'm cool with all that...I think.

After you commented on my blog about cancer, I've been thinking of you and watching for news. I know the waiting for the results will be the hardest and I'll be thinking of you.

My prayers will be with you. It is frightening because there is always a possibility of cancer. I was lucky I had two lumps but neither of them were cancer.

Exactly, Sherye, that's why this one has to come out. It's grown (almost 4.5 cms now) and no-ones really willing to say for sure just what the heck it is. I don't think it's anything sinister, but I'm glad I'm getting it out.
The only issue I'm having difficulty with is the disfigurement. Because of it's size I'm going to be left with quite a dimple in my breast, and that bothers me. I don't quite know why....

Isn't being a woman fun I have a lump that I get checked out every year. It hasn't grown but it is still there to keep me wondering each time. It is deep in there so I am not too jazzed about the idea of them digging it out. Hope it goes well and that the dimple doesn't end up bugging you sa much as expected.
