I've been reading some blogs today, and I am struck by the poor spelling in some of them.

I'm not a perfect speller myself, but I'm amazed at the lack of knowledge of how to spell the most basic words...or how to use words properly. Some of the stuff I read today looked like it had been written by my 3rd grader! I know that sometimes people get ahead of themselves when they're typing and letters get put in the wrong order (i'm guilty of that, just as I'm guilty of mis-spelling sometimes) - but the errors I saw today were, like I said, grade school stuff. I had spent most of my time trying to decipher what the words actually were so I could put them into context in the sentences...by which time I had become tired of reading and didn't bother to finish the article.

Is spelling not taught in schools today? Are the days of the spelling lists and tests gone forever?

Do people not realize how uneducated they look when they publish something that's full of basic mistakes like that? I think that it can undermine the whole point of what you're writing (a subject that was already touched upon by another blogger but i feel that i have to reinforce).

There, I said it.

It's the same as who would you rather do banking business with? Joeuser in a suit and tie, dressed to the T and looking professional..or Joeblow who's dressed to mow/rake the yard..
Typing is that same way, in my opinion.

The funny thing is, after reading every single comment made to this article, I still find it so funny that individuals are making such a fuss over how person, who are actually writing thier own things, can bitch about it, Im not a spelling nazi, and for a good reason, I am dyslexic.
Yet, you will still not see me going around bitching and moaning about spelling mistakes that other people have made. It's childish. As Dan can tell you, I will do stuff to just annoy you. Lol (read: Laugh out loud). I was a writer for a good bit of my life. I have written many many stories, but when I want to just chill out and actually write for the fun of it, I come here, otherwise I would fucking write a piece and give it to the proof-reader to gauk at... understand.
When it all comes down to it, if you bitch about writing, you just need to fucking smoke something, get off the comp. and do something constructive, like not bitch about spelling and grammatic errors... Because in the end, no one really give a shit.

Spelling mistakes bothers me alittle. Especially when I read a book and get to the last chapter, and there are ALOT of mistakes. Some lazy proofreader trying to get the book to print. I learn to sight read in the 1st grade, instead of learning phoneticly (sp?). This has hurt me as an adult, as I have to ask to husband what a word means, or have him give me the correct spelling if I don't have a dictionary around.

Ciao.

Uh...I know your pain....sometimes people rush, or something...but there's really no excuse for so many errors...sometimes it can get annoying to decifer words that are incredibly common and used in everyday speech...but what can you do?...
