I've been blogging for almost a year now, and during that time I've seen some questionable stories told in order to demonstrate the writers point.

Stories that are passed off as being factual, but have such big holes and discrepancies in them that it becomes obvious to most readers that it can only be fiction.  Wild accusations are made against all kinds of people and agencies...accusations that, with a little research, are proven to be untrue, yet the writer still claims that they are the 'truth', that this really happened to them despite all the hard evidence to the contrary.

To me, it's perfectly fine to create a scenario to demonstrate your point, as long as you state that it's fiction.  Trying to pass off a fictional piece as fact (even when the writer has been found out in a lie) only serves to undermine the author's credibility.  Tell a lie once about something, and I'm not likely to believe a word you say subsequently.

I want to know what you think, JU.  Is it ethically okay to make up a story and not label it as such?  Is it okay to write fiction and tell everyone that it's fact?  Given that this site is syndicated and is easily accessible to the public, is it ethical to make up events and publish them as the 'truth'?

What are your blogging ethics?

Aeryck.....

I honestly don't know what you're talking about, but I had heard that you had said some not-so-nice things about me.  I try not to hold grudges, so no apology is necessary...especially as I didn't see what you supposedly said....but I would like to know what I did to upset and/or offend you.  I don't like conflict, it literally makes me ill, so I'd like, if possible, for us to sort things out between the two of us.  If you want, you can email me at dharmagirl69@gmail.com and we can talk away from the JU spotlight.

I know I'm going to piss a few people off by saying this, and I know too that people are going to think that I'm ass kissing (I'm not) but....David St hubbins, you have no idea how happy your response on this thread made me.  When I said I wanted to make peace and wipe the slate clean, I meant it....and I now see that you did too.  Here's to a new era of friendship, perhaps?  You have my email address, and you also have my word that what we discuss there will stay there.

politics politics and more politics.....B O R I N G

I know what you mean, Mano. But sometimes it's what bloggers are passionate about, and that's just being honest, isn't it ?

What interests me is the need here at JU to have a "town hall" thread every time somebody writes an article that sets off the "BS-ometer."

You probably missed the "party" thread, Myrr, which was just plain LUNACY... but fun!

And to the hostess,Dharma, for her insights, thank you.
