This will be the only time I will ever do this.

I'm asking you for tangible help.

As you may already know, we have among us a blogger who's facing the prospect of becoming homeless.  Gideon MacLeish has a wife and 5 children (the youngest being only a couple of months old).  Gideon lost his job a little over a month ago, hasn't qualified for unemployment, probably hasn't qualified for TANF, can't make his rent this month, has no vehicle, has sold or pawned just about everything he has of value, and, despite his best efforts, has yet to find employment.

This man and his family need help.  Now.  I'm asking you to help them.  Gideon has a Paypal account set up, and I'm asking you to send him some money.  I know a few of you already have, and for that I thank you.  It doesn't have to be a substantial amount; you give what you can afford.  If you can give a buck, then please, give a buck.  if you can give more, that's wonderful.  I honestly believe that if we all chip in we can make a substantial difference.

I know that there will be those among us who will question how and why Gideon got to this place.  I say that now is neither the time nor the place for such questions.  We can hash all that out later, once we know that he and his family have a safe place to lay their heads at night.

So, if you read this, and you think that you can or that you'd like to help...please do.  His Paypal ID is miner432004@yahoo.com .  If you follow the link at the end of this article, it will take you right to the Paypal main page.  All you have to do is click on 'send money' and follow the instructions from there.

If you have any other resources to offer (such as a job, a place to stay, a vehicle to sell, or knowledge of where such things can be found) please contact Gideon or myself.

Thank you, Joe Users.

LW:  it's ok, hunny, I know how things are.  I know that if you could you would.  I like your spin on the blogging community.....I'm going to use that to pitch the idea to the papers.

Oli: Thanks...for saying that, but more for helping out!

Where exactly does he live?  Is it possible to contact his local news stations to do a piece on this?  We have a "hall of shame" type spot on our nightly news.  This could be a piece on how the system has failed for them and how they have nowhere to go.  What happens is local places step up to the plate and give food and clothing and so forth.  Some people have even been offered jobs.  But, I don't know where to even start with trying to get a news station to cover it.

Karma:  I've been in touch with his local newpapers, but I was holding out on the TV stations.  I think the time has come to make a few calls to their offices.  I'm done emailing people; it's too easy to ignore emails.  Phone calls are the way to go now.

Keep your fingers crossed that it gets some attention.....
