What do you do for fun?

I'm reading 'Simple Abundance' and todays thought was about hobbies.

I used to have an abundance of hobbies.  I used to sketch, knit, crochet, sew....target shoot, fish, swim, practice yoga...

...and somewhere down the line I ran out of time and energy.  I can't quite pinpoint where it was, but I simply stopped doing all of those things.  I didn't have the time, or the energy, to do my hobbies anymore.  When someone asked me what I did for fun, I'd have to stop and think about it...and then would usually only be able to come up with "umm...watch TV?" as a response.

Recently, I've tried to make a point of making time for myself to practice my hobbies.  I'll turn the TV off or go outside to read instead...or if I am watching TV I'll pick up my needles and knit.  I'm trying, in this ever-frantic world, to make time for myself, to give myself permission to do that which I enjoy.

My question to you is this:  what are your hobbies?  How do you make time them?  If you don't have one...well, why don't you have one?  And if you could choose anything as a hobby, what would it be?

I'm looking forward to seeing your responses.  It's going to be interesting to see how JoeUsers spend their downtime.

I'm a professional supervillian, more along the lines of Doom than that wuss Luthor.

And btw, CS Guy. You need to be more punctual. I mean, I go to the trouble of creating a giant spider and you can't even show up on time. Some of us have a schedule to keep!

Sorry, dude. There was a horde of man-killing robots on the freeway. They weren't so bad, but signing all the autographs afterwards took some time. And I certainly couldn't let down all of my lady fans.

I used to scrapbook... been two years though. : ( No time!

I write letters, do calligraphy. I read voraciously, mostly non-fiction and quite widely. I read two or three books at a time. I enjoy blogging, but it's so blasted addicting. Politics are a hobby, as is history, philosophy, and theology. I dabble in anthropology, linguistics, et cetera. I guess my hobby is: I'm a nerd. There. I said. Happy now?!!! : )

Interesting article! I try to do quite different things when not working. Cooking is my main hobby, since my relationship to food closely resembles addiction. I buy a cookbook for a particular cuisine, i.e. Japanese, Thai, Indian, Cajun, whatever, and use that book for inspiration for a while. Travelling around the world in your own kitchen! (which is a necessity if you consider traditional Swedish cuisine...) Shopping for groceries jn small specialty stores is very enjoyable as well.

Badminton, gym workouts and other sports. I have practiced Aikido but unfortunately had to quit due to problems with adhering to a strict schedule. But I certainly recommend aikido, a nice mix between traditional martial arts and the more philosophical aspects of martial arts.

Me and a few friends have our own book club that meet every six weeks. One of the members buys a paperback for the rest of the club to read and cooks for all the others. At the next meeting, the previous book is discussed and a new book is handed out by the next member in turn. An excellent way to read literature that you would otherwise not read.

Things in line for this autumn are Poweryoga and Kickboxing. And that sichuan cuisine book that has dwelled untouched on my bookshelf for all too long...

My hobbies would be reading, doing puzzles--both crossword and jigsaw--, scrapbooking, attending festivals of all sorts, and collecting teddy bears. And I need to get myself back into a decent exercise routine!!
