I smell doo-doo....
Published on July 21, 2004 By dharmagrl In Misc

I think that each and every one of us is born with a bullshit-ometer.  We all have the capability to detect BS when we smell it.....some of us have slightly more sensitive meters than others.  I like to think that I have a pretty dang sensitive, finely tuned meter...partially genetically inherited, partially honed because of the inerview and interrogation techniques I've been taught (and am still being taught).

My BS-ometer has gone off a few times in the last 5 months, and so far I haven't been proven wrong.  I may have been a little off about what type of BS was going down, but I detected it nonetheless.

Right now my BS-ometer is going nuts - lights are flashing, bells are ringing and a big voice is blaring out "Warning!  Bullshit alert!"  I have seen and heard things in the past few days that simply don't add up.  The don't make any sense, and they haven't made any sense for a couple of weeks. Usually, as any police officer will tell you, if someone's story doesn't make sense then you're being BS'd.  Maybe not totally BS'd, but there's still some fabrication of truth going on.

So, I'm going to go and do a little checking tomorrow.  See if what I'm being led to believe is true or not. If I'm wrong, then I will apologize to the people I'm not referring to here for ever doubting them.  If I'm right....well, let's just say that the lies that are being told are pretty damn heinous, and are about a circumstance that should never be lied about, ever.

Am I the only one with a BS-ometer?  Do you have one?  If you do, how well does it work for you?  Is it something that comes naturally to you, or do you have to work at getting it calibrated?  Do you feel like you're being BS'd at the moment?

I'm looking forward to your responses.....

playing on people's emotions and sincere sentiment in this way really, really bothers me.

And that's why I came out and said what I was feeling.  If it had been an act a la Peter Maxwell I'd have left it alone.  But because she was playing people emotionally I didn't feel I could let it go.  As you can see, people sent her e-cards, were wanting to send her gifts and such...becuase they cared.  They were emotionally involved.

I think this is going to make my list of 'lowest things I've ever come across'. It's not up at number one or anything, but the fact that it even makes the list speaks volumes.

I am very, very relieved.

I was becoming concerned that the references to "the latest drama" concerned people doubting our situation (I have not been online much lately), so I had to do a lot of archiving to figure it out (and the problems with the site today didn't help). All I knew was that it involved prayer requests, a small child, and suspicion of deceit...2 of 3 fit our situation, so I was hoping to clear up any confusion in our own defense (I will tell you flat out that Gideon MacLeish is a pseudonym, so you're not likely to find any "real life" information under that name.

And yes, going through the concerns with the baby still on the way (everything's looking very good at the moment, folks), I can see why that would anger and infuriate people on these blogs.

Sorry to hear about the drama on here. Glad to hear it wasn't directed at us (for the record, just because of the latest drama, if somebody does feel compelled to contact us later, I will be happy to give them relevant contact information).

Glad to hear it wasn't directed at us

Oh no, I never had any suspicions about you and yours...my BS-ometer has remained dormant as far as you're concerned!

I'm glad it is almost sorted..so, what happens now?
on Jul 25, 2004

i wish youd give your BS meter a little more freedom...dont doubt your intuition

With something like this I'm working off my own gut (and not getting paid)...and it wasn't until she pulled the 'baby's-ill-and-might-die' farce that I felt I had to step in and do something.  My gut, whilst good, isn't infallible, and I don't want to go off half cocked and run checks on people left right and center.  It leaves me feeling like I can't trust anyone or take them for what they are...and I refuse to do that.

This isn't the first time I've done a background check on someone from JU...and that person turned out to be not quite what they portrayed themselves to be either.    Like I said, a person has to really work at it in order to make me want to go check them and their story out...

..so, what happens now?

That's all up to Ashlee.  I find it incredibly interesting that neither of the fictional characters involved has made an appearance to defend themselves and their friend.  I think the silence speaks for itself.

If Ashlee tries to continue the charade...then I'll have to keep knocking her down.  There's not really much else that can be done.  I don't know if she's breached the Terms Of Service for this site or not, and if she has then the decison to act lies with the admins here, not me.  I just caught her in a pack of lies...I can't dole out the punishment.

Can't Brad and Karma kick her off like they did with Dan? Maybe not, though, because I don't think that was the main reason for him being "exiled."

Karen, (and everyone else) do you realize that she's getting exactly what she wants? We're giving her exactly what she was looking for? We just keep feeding it going on like this. We all know she's a farce and that we shouldn't trust her, so there's really no point in going on about this, because, really, she's just getting what she hoped for. It's a three syllabaled word started with an A. She's caught, she was foolish, but can't we just let it go now?

"If Ashlee tries to continue the charade...then I'll have to keep knocking her down. "

Although, I do agree with that... or we could just ignore it. Karen, have you talked to Brad or Karma about it?

LW, I have no reason to go look at your past...you've been very open and honest about things, and since you're not running or trying to run a scam....you're one of the people here I'm starting to trust and take at face value.  You're not the only one feels that way, you know.  I have no regrets either, I just wish I could've been a little more receptive to the lessons life was trying to teach me the first time instead of the second or the third.

Karen, (and everyone else) do you realize that she's getting exactly what she wants?

To a certain degree, yes she is.  However, that being said I don't think it's the kind of attention she had in mind when she started this.  I think that Ashlee lives in a fantasy land where everything she makes up somehow solidifies and becomes real to her.  Us being this acrimonious and (in her head) mean to her...she doesn't like it.

As for her being exiled...I don't know that she's breached any terms of service.  I can email Brad and ask him, but I'm sure he's already aware of what's been going down (he lurks on the forums more than we realize).  If he wants to take action, I'm sure he will.  If you want to email him, have at it...and if you want me to, let me know and I'll do it on 'our' behalf (although I do think it better to let sleeping dogs lie at the moment).

I think she'll be back, with a different persona.  We gave her enough rope to hang herself, now let her have at it.

I haven't been on much the past few days.....but I'll go look and see.

Glad to hear that things are looking good in your situation, and sorry that you had any worries over the comments on here. I'm sure the last thing any of us wanted to do was add to your concerns at this time.

When/where did the miraculous recovery get posted??
on Jul 26, 2004
Ashee herself posted on the 21st, was that after the incident?

Interesting to note, too...carebear and captcornbread ceased blogging within hours of ashlee's mysterious disappearance as well. Sad to say, I think the web is wider than we realized.

If it is all true (and even just what we know is true), I will say this: "Ashlee" is a talented writer. It's just a shame she couldn't use her writing skills to a CONSTRUCTIVE end.
on Jul 26, 2004
Well Capt Cornbread's been at JU for ages - like a year in November or something he said. I don't know why he deleted his articles - maybe he felt like a fool I do know that they were going on Band Camp this week.

Karen gets emails from both Ashlee and Ashley - and I've spoken to Ashley (carebear) on msn a few times.
As far as I know carebear, blondelife, zoologist, apedong (sp) amandahillbilly, capt cornbread and death by beebles all go to the same school - the boys are a year or 2 ahead of the girls but they're all in the band together.
Until Ashlee started writing about Ace and "the truth" I don't think Brandon had bothered with Ashlee Ryder's writing much. Carebear has been pretty vocal about her crush on the Capt

I still don't know what's truth and what's lie - you'd think Emma (if she existed) would defend Ashlee like she did against Sabrina - even though Sabrina didn't attack Ashlee - but then again IF there is a sick baby then why would you waste precious time on a blog site - it's all too strange.

This gets deeper...it's like The OC, only I don't have to wait for the new season for new episodes.

With that said, I still think it's interesting. A friend of mine on Live Journal did something simular to this. He created a character that was totally separate from himself. In that sense, I guess it would be okay as long as it didn't hurt anyone. As far as people not responding since this thing happened, and they were friends, that makes sense. They don't want to get lynched in supporting someone that might be fraudulent. Maybe it is best to let it all rest?
